Principle Living has reached a major milestone in the delivery of its new over-55s community, The Hermitage, with local civil engineering company Daracon Group completing Stage 1 civil works earlier this month.

The works have established the essential infrastructure for the first 44 villas within the 301-home community. Final asphalt works will be completed this month, paving the way for builders to move onto the site in September.

Principle Living Development Director Chris Old said the completion of Stage 1 civil works represents one of the most significant phases in bringing a community to life.

“This is an exciting achievement because it lays the foundations for everything that follows,” Chris said.

“There’s a huge amount of planning, approvals and infrastructure that has to happen before construction can begin. Reaching this point means we’re ready to move into the next stage of the project where things will really start to come to life.”

With the critical works now complete, additional elements will soon start to take shape, with the existing clubhouse at the entrance to the site set to become The Hermitage’s official Sales and Information Centre, with the Northern precinct of the floor plan being transformed into a community hub for residents and the wider community alike. Aptly named Stonebridge House in homage to the sites former use.

Principle Living is also progressing the detailed landscape and streetscape designs that will shape the community’s look and feel, with a focus on creating walkable streets, connected pathways and inviting group spaces.

“Our vision has been to create a community that feels connected to its surroundings, where thoughtful landscaping, walkable streets and shared spaces encourage people to get outdoors, meet their neighbours and enjoy an active lifestyle,” Chris said.

“After years of careful planning, we’re now moving into a phase where people can watch The Hermitage grow and begin to imagine themselves living here.”

The first homes are expected to be completed in the first half of 2027, when the community will welcome its initial homeowners. Construction of the community facilities and later stages of civil works will continue as development progresses, with Stage 2 and Stage 3 expected to complete the western precinct by mid to late 2027.

Designed to support an active, connected lifestyle, The Hermitage will feature lounge and dining areas alongside an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, gym, yoga space and other wellness facilities. The existing Cessnock Golf Club will also be reimagined into a more accessible golfing experience, offering residents the opportunity to enjoy the game in a relaxed, social setting.
