Construction of the first homes at The Hermitage is set to begin, marking a major milestone for Principle Living’s new $200 million over 55s community in Cessnock.

Patterson Building Group has been appointed to deliver the homes, with in-ground services expected to commence in October and slabs and framing to follow later this year.

The 37-hectare community will transform the former Stonebridge Golf Course into a vibrant new lifestyle destination, with 301 architecturally designed two- and three-bedroom homes across three distinct precincts - Redleaf, Stonehurst and Vigneron.

Principle Living Development Director Chris Old said the start of home construction was an exciting step forward for the project.

“The Hermitage has been carefully planned to make the most of this substantial site and create something genuinely new for over 55s living in and around the Hunter Valley,” Chris said.

“With the major civil infrastructure now in place, we’re ready to move into home construction and begin seeing the community take shape."

The Hermitage has been designed around a strong connection to open space, with landscaped areas, pocket parks and shared facilities creating opportunities for residents to get outdoors, stay active and connect with neighbours.

Residents will enjoy access to The Retreat, an exclusive clubhouse with social and dining spaces, alongside a range of lifestyle and wellness facilities including a swimming pool, gym, lawn bowls and pickleball courts found at Vitality Grounds, the community’s active precinct.  Dedicated caravan parking will also be available.

“The vision for The Hermitage has always been about creating more than just a collection of homes,” Chris said.

“We wanted to design a community where residents still feel like they’re living in a substantial home, with space around them and places to walk, meet and enjoy the lifestyle benefits this region offers.”

The first residents are expected to move into their new homes by mid-2027, with the community set to bring a new land lease lifestyle option to the Hunter Valley.

A Sales and Information Centre is opening this month at 206 Wollombi Road, Cessnock, where prospective residents can meet the team and learn more about The Hermitage.

The Hermitage Priority Preview, an exclusive information event for The Hermitage will be held at Cessnock Leagues Club on Wednesday, 30 September from 10am. Here, guests can explore the community vision, lifestyle and be the first to sight the home designs, plus access more about inclusions and pricing. The event will also launch the limited Priority Buyers Circle for those who want the first opportunity to select their ideal home in advance of sale to the public.
